Gas Prices

Editor, Times-Union:
Well, they've done it again. Have our gas distributors no conscience? What in the thunder can be their excuse for jumping the price 3-4 cents per gallon?

Left town Thursday afternoon and noticed the price was up, so I thought I'd just check south. Sure enough, fuel was 87.9 per gallon. So naturally, the conservative that I am, filled up my big tank in Marion.

Again, why are we the suckers for this type of dealing? Talk about fleecing of America. How about a little closer to home. The "Fleecing of the Warsaw Residents."

I guess it's time for the distributors to take their vacation. I think it would be great if when you call your meeting and get together about jacking up the price that you bring a few of the average citizens of the city. Let's justify that price. 87.9 to 99.9 is quite a disparity.

Anyone else have a few comments? Let's let them know what you think.

Life

Editor, Times-Union:
Why am I angry that I have never been invited to a "fetal shower" for a pregnant friend? Or have never had reason to buy a pair of little booties for the "product of conception?" Or have never seen expectant parents pouring over a list of potential names for the "contents of the womb?"

Since sanctity of life is the cornerstone of all major religions except humanism, why am I angry with happy clergy whose pulpits are silent on this vital issue?

Why am I hoppin' mad about killing babies? Could it be because two abortion candidates, whose parents disobeyed government mandated murder, grew up to be two of the greatest leaders who ever lived? both were pro-lifers. They said:

"Cursed be he who takes reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen." (Moses-Deuteronomy 27:25)

"The thief comes to kill, to seal and to destroy; I am come that they might have life more abundantly." (Jesus-John 10:10)

Why am I most angry for my lack of discipline to fast and pray, asking God for his merciful judgment upon those refusing to end this dance with death?

Victim's Impact

Editor, Times-Union:
On Wednesday evening (the 4th of March) the First Victim's Impact Panel of Kosciusko County met. There were approximately 20 attendees and two panel members.

For nearly an hour those in the audience listened attentively to our presenters. Both of the speakers had lost a loved one because of the actions of a driver who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. They spoke not only of the immediate loss, but also of their ongoing bereavement, in some cases years after the initial tragedy.

The feedback we received from the attendees at the panel was very positive.

I want to personally thank the attendees and the speakers. I also greatly appreciate the cooperation of our local judicial system. Without their support the panel would not be possible.

I trust this will be a positive step in continuing to reduce drunk driving calamities and deaths in our community.

Legion Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
I want to say thanks to the 2nd District of American Legion and Post No. 49 and the VFW No. 1124 of Warsaw for bringing smiles to 62 veterans at the Marion VA Hospital bingo party on Feb. 11. Also thanks to those furnishing caps, T-shirts, cookies, fruit, drinks, candy bars, socks, corn and cheese balls, popcorn, pretzels, prizes and samples from motels.

Seventeen people from the 2nd District helped at the bingo party.

The youngest veteran was 25 years old. When they came to the gift table, there were so many things to choose from. It was a good feeling to see them there for they had given so much so we could be free.

So if you know a veteran, just walk up and shake his hand and say thanks. Because of him and his buddies we are free.
