Editor, Times-Union: As we approach this Valentine's season, I would like to give a special thanks to our EMTs, firemen and police. Jerry and I were so appreciative of all their care and concern during the many years of his illness. They were always prompt, caring and professional. Living on Center Street, I see them going to calls in all kinds of weather around the clock. We should not take their dedication for granted.
At this season of love I would like to address all those who still smoke and to challenge them to quit. This is a gift to your family that is worth more than diamonds and valentines. What we know now about the effects of smoking on the person is proven. What we are sadly learning about the effects on others is also deadly. It is a horrible addictive drug. Try watching in a mirror and see what you look like when you smoke. That helps many quit. Talk to your doctor and get help if you need it. Take care of your body. Life is too short to waste a minute.
