Editor, Times-Union: At A recent meeting of the Milford Lions Club, an official of the Indiana Lions Eye and Tissue Transplant Bank told of the increased number of corneal transplants given to people whose sight had deteriorated.
The cornea is the clear outer covering of the eye - sometimes coned, vision is diminished. The remedy is to stitch in place a clear cornea, and vision is almost immediately improved.
However, the new cornea must come from a donated eye; synthetic ones have not yet been successful.
Have you had a conversation with your next of kin, telling them that at your death, you would like to donate your eyes to give sight to another person?
