SYRACUSE - Leland William "Bill" Ginger, 75, of Syracuse, died at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9, 2010, at Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born July 21, 1935, in Columbia City, to Kenneth and Jessie Lehman Ginger. On July 3, 1980, he married Mildred M. "Milly" Bobeck Savage, who survives.

Living most of his life in Syracuse except for his years in the military, he graduated from Syracuse High School in 1954. He served 27 years in the United States Army, which included three tours of duty in Vietnam, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse; American Legion Post 215, LaGrange; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1342, Syracuse; and Hex Farmers Club.

Also surviving are three daughters: Teresa, Milford; Carmelita, New Jersey; and Claudia, W.Va.; a son, Kevin Ginger, Oregon; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Beth (and spouse Dennis) Woods, Syracuse; two stepsons, Steve (and spouse Jeannie) Savage, Warsaw; and Joe (and spouse Alyson) Savage, Syracuse; and two sisters, Sharon Ordat, North Webster, and Kay Carter, Goshen.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with the Rev. David Herr officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Syracuse Veterans of Foreign Wars and LaGrange American Legion will be in Hire Cemetery, Ligonier.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
