Leesburg Man Facing Domestic Battery, Strangulation Charges

A Leesburg man is facing three felonies and one misdemeanor in regards to domestic battery.
Leon Allen Oswalt, 50, is being charged with domestic battery with moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a Level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Det. Tom Waikel was contacted by the Department of Child Services on March 11 in regards to a physical abuse case.
The victim was interviewed at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, by a DCS case manager. The victim stated, according to court documents, that she and Oswalt got into a verbal altercation which turned physical.
The victim said Oswalt came close to her face, so she pushed him away so she could leave. Oswalt then pushed her until she fell to the floor. Upon getting up, he pushed her into the sink. When the victim entered the living room, court documents state, she said she was pushed into furniture, pushed to the floor and punched in her jaw area on both sides of her face.
The victim then stated she was choked to the point she could barely breath, as well being punched in the stomach and having her hair pulled. The victim stated the altercation lasted about 15 minutes.
At the time of the examination, marks were observed on the victim consistent to her account of the event, which were present on her face and neck and bruising to her lower arms, abdomen and legs, according to court documents.
Oswalt spoke to officers and said he did have a verbal and physical altercation with the victim on March 10. He allegedly admitted that other minor children were present at the residence during the alteration, the court documents state.
Oswalt was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:39 a.m. Friday under a Marion address, though court documents list his address as Leesburg. No bond was set.
