LEESBURG — The town of Leesburg will be entering into a contract with Tim Sammons, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff Office.
Town council approved a motion at their meeting Monday for Sammons to act as the town designee to serve legal papers for ordinance enforcement.
As discussed at Leesburg’s April town council meeting, council is continuing to face issues with ordinance violation fines not being paid.
Council made the decision to contact KCSO for assistance in delivering certified letters related to ordinance violation fines.
Council Vice President Mitch Rader and Leesburg Street Commissioner Craig Charlton will work with Sammons on details of the contract. Rader said they should be able to move forward with the process by next month.
Dates were selected for the Leesburg town garage sale. The town garage sale days will be June 12-13.
Council had a lengthy discussion about how to handle town cleanup this year. Typically, the town’s garage sale is a two-day event, held the Friday and Saturday prior to Father’s Day weekend. The town cleanup days are generally held the Friday and Saturday following Father’s Day weekend. However, council discussed the possibility of making changes to the cleanup dates due to issues with people who are not residents of Leesburg showing up each year, mainly during the overnight hours, and dumping items such as tires and electronics in the containers designated for Leesburg residents.
Several options were discussed, including posting security during overnight hours, fencing in the drop-off area or having cleanup on one specific day, during daytime hours only.
It was eventually agreed to make a final decision on the town cleanup date(s) at next month’s meeting, June 8.
