Posted

LEESBURG —  The first order of business during Leesburg Town Council’s monthly meeting Monday was election of 2024 officers.
Mitch Rader will serve as the 2024 town council president. Christina Archer will serve as 2024 council vice president. Tom Moore will serve as councilman.
Street Commissioner Craig Charlton provided a monthly street report with updates on equipment status and ordinance violations. Three parking violation warnings were issued.
Charlton also provided the following public information: Sidewalks and trees are the property and responsibility of the residents. Residents are to keep sidewalks clear of snow, ice, and low-hanging tree limbs to provide safe passage, per town ordinance 93:22 (B).
In another matter, Archer said at the end of 2023, the State Board of Accounts completed an audit of the town. Archer said the audit went “really, really well.” Clerk-Treasurer Michael Searfoss said a few recommendations were made, such as the town having a list of capital assets as well as a personnel policy and a town credit card policy.
Council members reminded residents of the following: no parking on any street between 3 to 5 a.m. every day; no burning anything, any time; be mindful of what you flush; street department cell number is 574-527-2884.
In other news:
• In order to keep new sidewalks in good shape, homeowners should not put salt on the concrete for the first year and should instead use sand or kitty litter.
• Moore said there are still speeding issues in town. He will be checking into the cost of a radar speed sign.
• Council approved additional appropriations in the amount of $50,000 following a public hearing, the majority of which will be used toward the K21 Health Foundation walking path project. Total cost of the project exceeded the $200,000 K21 grant by $43,000.
The next regular meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Feb.12.
