LEESBURG — Leesburg Street Commissioner Craig Charlton said the town has had several responses related to ordinance violation notices that were sent out by the town’s attorney, Nick Jacobs.
At the Leesburg Town Council meeting Monday, Charlton and Councilman Mitch Rader said they are continuing to update documentation regarding properties that are in violation.
“We’ve had some good response, we’ve had some response and then we’ve got some that have had no response. It’s about equal between the three, but we have had some good progress on some of these,” Rader said. “We certainly appreciate those that are working on it. Those that haven’t, well, we’ll be back in touch with you.”
This led to further discussion regarding ordinance updates, specifically as it relates to fines/penalties and whether there should be one “blanket” policy for all ordinance violations or if certain ordinance violations, such as those pertaining to traffic and refuse, would fall under a different category.
Council will discuss this further at next month’s meeting.
In another matter, Council President Christina Archer said the K21 sidewalk project on Van Buren Street is progressing nicely and should be done before the weather gets too cold.
"They're moving along at a nice pace," Council Vice President Tom Moore agreed.
The project was initiated by a pledge from the K21 Health Foundation, which provided the opportunity for nine towns in the county to receive up to $200,000 for projects focusing on health and wellness in their community.
