Leesburg Conducts Memorial Day Ceremony

LEESBURG – The Leesburg community and friends gathered and participated in a Memorial Day parade in honor of those who were in the military and are deceased.

Town Councilman Thomas Moore welcomed all to the event. The Boy Scouts raised the flag, followed by “To The Colors” played by Joe Peloza. The pledge of allegiance was followed by “The Star Spangled Banner,” sang by Brad Keller. Music prior to the parade was provided by Derick Tenney.

The parade was directed by Craig Charlton. Horizon Bank provided the funds for the parade expenses.

Veterans rode on a float in honor of those who served, provided and pulled by Everest Excavating. Golf carts for veterans were provided by veterans Ron West and Raymond Hartman. There were entries by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Plain Township Fire Department, local business trucks, tractors, cars (including antique cars), bicycles, a large group of 4-H members, Sacred Heart Methodist Church, Maple Leaf Farms and the Stookey family. There also was a rider and her horse that was riding coast to coast who was in the area.

The Memorial Day service at the cemetery was directed by Christina Archer. The music was provided by Abby Archer. Pastor Mike Beezley, of the Clunette United Methodist Church, presented a message. Christina Archer read the memorial roster of the Leesburg, Oswego and Clunette cemeteries. The deceased were saluted and Taps was played by Joe Peloza.

Popcorn was served by the Allen family and friends. Hot dogs and drinks were provided during the parade, provided by Maple Leaf Farm and prepared and served by the Leesburg ?Brethren Church.

The committee thanks all of those that advertised this community event, as well as all that helped, participated and were spectators.
