Laura Belle Young, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, in Avon, at the age of 89.
Laura Belle was born in 1934 in Warsaw, to Pauline and Floyd Bolinger. She attended Atwood and Mentone Schools before moving to Warsaw High School where she enjoyed playing the French horn in the marching band, and graduated in 1952. Three years later, Laura Belle married Emanuel “Buck” Young, Jr., and they were blessed with 64 years of marriage. Together they joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969. Buck passed away on March 22, 2020.
Laura Belle loved being a mom and raising her nine children. She was a dedicated den mother in the local Boy Scouts council for many years as her sons grew through the program. She taught her daughters many skills and supported them in their 4-H projects. She always had plenty of love to give, and that love multiplied when she became a grandmother and a great-grandmother.
Laura Belle and Buck spent many years working on their genealogies and family history, even traveling to visit where their ancestors lived in the United States. They enjoyed the adventures and continued to travel around the rest of the country visiting each of the 50 states. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a few years and one year in Florida, but Laura Belle loved her hometown best and soon returned to live in Warsaw.
Laura Belle enjoyed many hobbies, especially sewing, gardening and crafts. She made intricately beaded crystal Christmas ornaments all year so she could share the light of Christ with others each holiday season. Her hours of tending her flower and vegetable gardens paid off with beautiful bouquets of her favorite lilacs and shelves of home canned delights.
Laura Belle is survived by six daughters, three sons, 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buck; one grandson, Bradley Underwood; and three sisters: Betty Wilson, Mary Neer and Dorothy Sumpter.
Laura Belle and Buck’s lives will be celebrated with a service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. The service will be conducted by Brother Jarrad Asay. Friends and family may visit an hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Buck.
Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home’s website at www.redpathfruthfuneralhome.com.
