Larry S. Bowers, 77, Warsaw, passed away at 9:55 p.m. Oct. 2, 2016, surrounded by the love of his family. He was originally of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and moved to Warsaw in 2013. He was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Alma, Mich., to Stewart W. and Dorothy Gilbert Bowers. On Nov. 30, 1963, in Mt. Pleasant, he married Annette Coppens-Morrison. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School with the class of 1959. He entered into service with the United States Army in September 1960 in Detroit, Mich. He served in the 45th Medical Battalion as a medical corpsman and was based in Frankfurt, Germany. Private First Class (E3) Larry Bowers was honorably discharged in February 1963 from Dearborn, Mich. He retired from General Motors, Lansing, Mich., after 30 years of employment. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, enjoyed fishing of all types and always kept a large vegetable garden. He was a hobbyist woodworker and enjoyed making trinkets. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Annette Bowers, Warsaw; a daughter-in-law, Becky Thomas, Claypool; a son-in-law, Dennis Penner , Middlebury; three grandsons: Gary Bowers (and fiancée Codi Bradley), Warsaw; Nathan Penner (and fiancée Chelsie Bigler) Goshen; and Steven (and spouse Marcia) Bowers, Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters, Christina (and spouse Ryan) Gross, Warsaw, and Brandalee Penner, Mt. Pleasant; three great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters. He was preceded by a son, Gary Bowers, in June 1998; two daughters, Tonya Penner , in August 2007 and Trecy Bowers in April 2015; and an infant great-granddaughter, Ally Bowers, in November 2013. A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday in White Pigeon Township Cemetery, 200 W. Vermont Ave., White Pigeon, Mich., with Pastor Don Chesher of Faith Baptist Church, Middlebury, officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted by members of White Pigeon’s American Legion Post 427 and United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.
