Sometimes we have to be reminded to be thankful that we are free to write these letters, to go to church, to have a "tea party" on the courthouse lawn; freedom because our men and women in the United States military are standing watch and are fighting or have fought to keep us safe and free. (Even as Washington is trying to do the opposite.)
Thanks, Marines, soldiers, airmen, guardsmen and sailors and thank you LCpl Douglas Heady for your fine letter.
On B.Y.'s helpful hints to the Jews, read Monday's Star Parker article on page 4A April 27. She blows your "hints" out of the water, as they should be. On e-mail: parker@urbancure.org As she stated, quote: "You have to be either blind or have a political agenda to refuse to see the incredible miracle that has occurred in the rebirth of the Jewish nation." Also B.Y., look up the widely respected non-partisan Freedom House. We should all be proud of our Jewish friends, they stood tall and ready to help us on 9/11.
Another excellent article is April 28's Deroy Murdock column "Americans Should Be Proud Of Waterboarding." I stand with Deroy - what a way to get info from terrorists and it worked? His e-mail: deroy.Murdock@gmail.com
One other item of interest is National Health Care. Where did we all get the idea that it would be free? We'll be taxed to death to pay for it, and the only ones who will get it free will be those who do not pay taxes (they already get it free, it's called Medicaid). Sure, if we don't want it we don't have to take it, but we'll still have to pay for it through higher taxes.
I read an estimate not long ago that we could pay $1,200 extra in taxes per year per person or more. For a family of four that is $4,800 per year in higher taxes. Why do you think folks with National Healthcare come to the U.S. for treatment. No to the government telling us when, where and how we should get medical treatment.
One last thing, to the coward who wrote me an unsigned letter, my taxes are paid, our mortgage is paid and you can look it up. We are here 'til we die, but thanks for all of your helpful hints on welfare, I'll pass them on.
We live in the greatest nation in the world. I love this country, our constitution and I love all those who keep us free, now we have to fight Washington to stay that way. At my age the pen and feet are the only way for me.
Let's start cleaning up Washington's act by studying those who have been elected and wish to be. Not just party lines, but those who will keep America's values that made this country great.
Thanks again to the American soldier and God bless you.
