Lame Ducks

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Our public servants (congressmen) are busy at work during this lame duck session trying to pass as many things as possible. Please be aware of some dangerous things that they want to pass.

Senate Bill SB510, The Food Safety Bill. This bill would make farmer's markets illegal as well. S. 510 calls for enhanced expansion of FDA authority over small farms, ranches and other food producers; establishes burdensome administrative requirements for large and small operations, and an arbitrary legal authority to recall "unsafe medications," the definition of which is not clearly established. Under S. 510 more power would be granted to an unaccountable agency, hyper-regulating small producers out of business, leaving the industrial food system that currently has the highest number of food safety problems, to commandeer the marketplace.

This massive expansion of government regulation of the food industry, completely unauthorized by the Constitution, would limit the right to produce, distribute, and consume the foods of one's labors and choice. The constant refrain of "safety" is no excuse for granting practically unlimited authority to an unaccountable bureaucracy. Our Indiana senators both voted yes for this. The house has passed their version as well and now will be reconciled with passage of a simple majority. Call now and say no. This will be voted on soon.

HR4646. This is a house bill and will charge a fee for any type of banking transaction. Cash a check, pay a fee; deposit money, pay a fee; withdraw, pay a fee; transfer money, pay a fee. This will be voted on by Dec. 23.

Please contact D.C. and tell them no on these bills along with the START treaty that the senate needs to ratify. Social networks are a great way to place these bills. If you would like to be updated on these types of notices, please contact me via e-mail at dgtm@localnet.com and I can then friend you on Facebook.
