Lake City Bagels Offers A Variety Of Bagels, Muffins & Cream Cheeses From Scratch

Lake City Bagels offers fresh-baked bagels daily, jumbo muffins and a variety of cream cheeses.
Becky Wall, owner of Lake City Bagels, 2616 Shelden St., Warsaw, said they’re all made from scratch.
“We’ve added things to our menu, but that’s kind of our core base. We rotate our menu every week, so there’s always something different and new that you can come and try,” she said.
Tuesday, the business had a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce for their one-year anniversary.
“We officially turn 1 October 14, is our true 1-year birthday, but we wanted to do a little open house, kind of coordinate with the ribbon-cutting, since I didn’t do that when I opened. Kind of celebrate a year and then do an open house tomorrow and have people come in and kind of continue to build awareness in the community,” Wall explained.
Along with the similar offerings of any bagel shop, she said they have plain, savory, garlic and onion bagels. This week they’re doing smoked gouda and have sun-dried tomato. They have a couple sweat offerings, like Cinnamon Crunch and a French toast bagel, both of which are customer favorites. They also have a French toast breakfast sandwich that incorporates the French toast bagel, choice of bacon or sausage and an egg.
“One of the things we do, outside of making them fresh, we boil our bagels. That’s the method that I use to make bagels. Some people will steam them, but we do the boil,” Wall said. “Other things that we do different, a lot of times when you see a bagel, like if you get an everything bagel it has all the toppings on top. We put it in the inside, so you’re kind of like, ‘Hey, if I want to split it in half, I get the whole taste of that flavor throughout the bagel if I only have half the bagel.’”
Around the holidays, they do holiday-appropriate bagels.
If a person wants a drink to go with their bagel or muffin, Wall said they do offer bottled water, tea and smoothies. They have coffee, but they’ve started offering ice coffees, ice lattes and chais iced. She said they’ve added some lemonade refreshers.
“We kind of continue to look at what makes sense to add,” she stated.
Her initial concept for Lake City Bagel was for people to come in, order and go, but she did end up putting some seating in.
“Longer term, looking to better have a different arrangement of seating to bring customers in. We get a lot of feedback that they would like to have different seating or something where it feels like a little more inviting because people do like to just come in and sit down, and they’re kind of looking for that atmosphere,” she said.
Wall said they’ve been looking to continue to build the catering side of the business as well as look for ways to drive people into the shop.
“Kind of long term, my goal is to open some other locations, whether they’re kind of partnering with other coffee shops or similar businesses that wouldn’t offer that, in smaller communities or opening an actual full-fledged shop in some of the bigger cities,” she stated.
Lake City Bagels has been doing catering since they opened. There is a link on their website, https://lakecitybagels.com/, to request catering as well as some other options.
“We’ve done a variety of things, some small things, and we just did an event here a few weeks ago for 200 people. So, we can kind of do small, large and scale from there,” Wall said. “We can do breakfast or lunch. A lot of times, depending on what they want, we’ll do maybe like a bagel bar-style, so kind of different options, or we can do just like bagel boxes so sandwich-type things.”
She said they’re continuing to look at how they can do catering just a little bit different and make people want to come in to the business.
Daily business hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday; and closed Monday.
“We are open on the weekends. We opened up Sunday for the summer, and we’ll probably continue to stay open on Sundays during the winter time. We might change our weekend hours, maybe go until noon. Usually, kind of after that noon time, it kind of slows down so we might do that in the winter, but we’ll continue to probably stay open the hours we currently have,” she said.
Lake City Bagel does deliver.
“So you can order online, so you can order online, pick it up. You can order online and there is a delivery service or we also do Door Dash,” Wall said. “We do have a lot of people that say, ‘Oh, you’re on the north side of town, I can’t reach you.’ We’ve given people options, if they like those kind of avenues, as well as being open on the weekends.”
She said while many people may equate bagels with breakfast, Lake City Bagels does have lunch offerings as well.
Along with their website, they also have Facebook and Instagram pages.
