Maj. L. Michael Fletcher, 66, Warsaw, was promoted to glory at 6:06 p.m. March 10, 2015, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born March 16, 1948, in Warsaw, to Lloyd “Bud” and Viola Priser Fletcher. On June 3, 1967, in Warsaw, he married Connie Sue Frazee, Rushville, whom he met through The Salvation Army. She died Dec. 24, 1999. On July 5, 2003, in Warsaw, he married Carol Louise Borders, who survives in Warsaw.
He graduated from Warsaw Community High School with the class of 1966. He returned to Warsaw in 2003 after his retirement from The Salvation Army.
He and Connie were called to serve the Lord in full-time ministry through The Salvation Army. They were commissioned (graduated) as officers from the School for Officers Training on June 13, 1976, in Chicago, Ill. Together they served from 1976 to 1999 in the following: St. Cloud, Minn.; Detroit Harbor Light, Mich.; Flint, Mich.; Tom Seay Center, Harbor Light and Emergency Lodge, Chicago; Muncie; Waukesha, Wis.; Moline, Ill.; and Sterling/Rock Falls, Ill.
After Connie’s promotion to glory and before his retirement, he served as the Quad City coordinator in Moline. He received his long service bar for 25 years of ministry on June 13, 2001. He also served with The Salvation Army in New York at Ground Zero as the supervisor at Site 2 for Emergency Disaster Services. He retired from active service as a Salvation Army officer June 30, 2003.
After his return to Warsaw with the intention of marrying Carol, he became the director of the Kosciusko County Old Jail Museum from 2005 to 2008. He loved history and telling people about his hometown and giving tours of the museum. He loved singing, playing the guitar and the cornet. He and Carol enjoyed playing instrumental duets. They also enjoyed traveling to see family – especially the children and grandchildren.
When getting out and about was more difficult, he and Carol enjoyed watching shows/movies with Tom Selleck in them. Quiet time together became precious for them. His family was important to him. He was always happy to see them walk in the door and sad to see them leave. As with a humble servant’s heart, he did for others before considering his needs or wants – especially as it pertained to his family. Most of all he loved the Lord and shared God’s love with everyone he met. He would always pray for, listen to and encourage anyone who needed it. He will be greatly missed.
Also surviving are a daughter, Erin (and spouse K.C.) Martin, Peoria, Ill.; two sons, Sean (and spouse Lisa) Fletcher, Chicago, and Nathan Fletcher, Milan, Ill.; two stepsons, Vince and Eric (and spouse Polly) Fletcher, all of Warsaw; nine grandchildren: Kyle, Alexis, Brad, Samantha, Emma, Lia, Knickolas, Brennan and Haylee. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Sue Fletcher, who died May 20, 1968; his father, who died Feb. 21, 1992; his mother, who died June 18, 2008; and a brother, Shannon Maky Fletcher, who died Feb. 21, 1998.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, with Lts. Esteban and Karen Pommier, The Salvation Army, Warsaw, and the Rev. Dennis Bollenbacher, Mason Health and Rehabilitation chaplain, officiating. Entombment is at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
