KWWIP Receives Arrowhead County RC&D Grant To Fight Invasive SpeciesNORTH WEBSTER – Kosciusko Water and Woodland Invasive Partnership (KWWIP) was awarded a grant by Arrowhead Country Resource Conservation and Development Area President Brad Clayton. KWWIP received a generous $2,300 to fund its first project of the year. This project is a cooperative effort of KWWIP and KCV Cycling Club to raise public awareness and facilitate the removal of invasive species along the trails in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Boot cleaning stations at trailheads and trail signs identifying four major invasive species growing along the trails are planned. A weed wrangle is planned on March 20 from 8 a.m. to noon at this site.
The project site in Winona Lake is a former Boys Club camp that has been repurposed into a large trail system of mountain bike trails as well as some walking trails. KCV Cycling maintains the mountain bike trails and this partnership will help control the non- native invasive species.
Kosciusko Water and Woodland Invasive Partnership is a new Organization formed to” Build community support to protect the land and water in Kosciusko County from non- native invasive species”. KWWIP will expand the focus on a variety of invasive water and woodland plants. We will share knowledge, people and other resources in an effort to improve public education, prevention and eradication programs across our county. Arrowhead Country RC&D serves a 10 county region dedicated to promoting conservation, development and utilization of natural resources, improving the general level of economic activity, and enhancing the environment and standard of living in designated RC&D areas.
The Kosciusko Water and Woodland Invasive Partnership exists to build community support to protect the land and water in Kosciusko County from non-native invasive species. The group’s Facebook page is at facebook.com/KWWIP
