Krebs Trailhead Park Bathroom Vandalized

Posted
Krebs Trailhead Park Bathroom VandalizedThe women’s bathroom at Krebs Trailhead Park, 214 S. McKinley St., Warsaw, was vandalized Thursday.

Parks Department Maintenance Director Shaun Gardner said the sink was ripped off the wall and shattered on the floor, and the trash can was laying on its side.

“It’s kind of hard to tell what exactly happened in there,” Gardner said. He said he didn’t know if someone was hanging onto the sink when the damage occurred.

Gardner said he believes the damage was done overnight or sometime Thursday afternoon.

It is unknown when the damage occurred, but it was reported at 11:36 p.m. Thursday, said Det. Sgt. Brad Kellar, public information officer for the Warsaw Police Department.

Gardner said the Parks Department has a nighttime restroom employee that closes the bathrooms and cleans them every night. That employee found the damage and called the police.

Gardner said the repairs were done Friday and he estimated the damage was between $500 and $750, which included a new sink and new plumbing work that included a new faucet and a new waterline to feed the sink. That estimate did not include the labor to fix the damage.

“To my knowledge, no other reports similar to this have been reported,” Kellar said. There are no active leads and no suspects to look for. “Sadly, criminal mischief and damage to property is pretty consistent in the city during the summer season.”

“Most of the time, we discover (damage) after the fact and we end up eating it,” Gardner said.
