Kosciusko County Pinwheel Garden To Kick Off Child Abuse Prevention Month

Posted

Bowen Health, CASA of Kosciusko County, Kosciusko County Department of Child Services and Our Father’s House invite the community to plant pinwheels to raise awareness around the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
This collaborative community event is scheduled for Wednesday at noon at The Gathering Place, 123 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, according to a news release from CASA.
Brief remarks plan to be made by Dr. Rob Ryan, president and CEO of Bowen Health; Angie Ritchey, board president of CASA of Kosciusko County; James Pippen, director of Kosciusko County Department of Child Services; Eric Lane, executive director of Fellowship Missions; followed by keynote speaker, Kearstin Criswell. Then those assembled will march around the courthouse and “plant” pinwheels in the Kosciusko Courthouse lawn to create a pinwheel garden, showing their dedication to raising awareness and promotion of ways the community can address the causes of child abuse.
“CASA is proud to stand together with partners to strengthen the safety net around vulnerable children and families,” said Erin Rowland Jones, executive director of CASA of Kosciusko County. “By marching together and planting pinwheels, we are sending a clear message that our community is united in preventing child abuse and ensuring every child has the opportunity for a safe and healthy childhood.”
Representing the joyful childhood all children deserve, the pinwheel was introduced in 2008 as a national symbol for child abuse prevention. It also represents efforts to change the way our nation thinks about prevention by focusing on community activities and public policies that prioritize the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
