Kosciusko County Farmers and Artisans Market’s opening day in downtown Warsaw was Saturday.
On Center Street, between Buffalo and Lake streets, the farmers market will be every Saturday through Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., according to their Facebook page.
The Kosciusko County Farmers & Artisans Market has served Warsaw and the surrounding area since 1976. With a wide range of products from Kosciusko County residents, the market represents the best of fresh, local vegetables, fruits, meat and eggs. Offerings also include an array of unique crafts and jewelry, according to visitkosciuskocounty.org.
Lisa Hawley, from Hawley Farms, said Hawley Farms has been a vendor at the farmers market for 13 years.
“I was at the fairgrounds before, and just decided to come up here,” she said.
Hawley Farms sells seasonal fruits, vegetables, beef, pork, chicken, eggs, breads and butters.
“Well, I can tell you exactly what you’re eating because there’s no additives in things like that. And it’s nice to know that we can feed the public,” Hawley said about the benefits of having the farmers market. She added farmers market like Warsaw’s is a way for them to sell their products.
Vicki Van Curen sells vintage silver jewelry and windchimes.
“Everything here is made from old vintage spoons. Most of it is silver plate,” she said.
This is the third year she’s sold at the farmers market in Warsaw. She said she likes being in her hometown and getting to know some of the people.
Coming to sell at the farmers market helps bring in more customers during the summer months.
“Not only does it benefit us to be out here, but it benefits all the other shop owners who are already existing here, you know, brings more people into town,” she said.
Lanette LeMaster and Erica Bruce sell crochet items, such as blankets, bonnets and baby items.
LeMaster said this is the third year they’ve come to the farmers market because they both live in Warsaw and like their community. They like coming down to the farmers market and interacting with everyone and interacting and petting people’s dogs.
She said she likes the market in Warsaw because it’s right in the middle of town and helps the businesses in downtown because it brings in a crowd.
“The people that come here are also patronizing the businesses,” LeMaster said.
