The Kosciusko Leadership Academy (KLA) launched its 2025–26 cadet year with a kickoff day that highlighted both local history and innovation in Kosciusko County.
The day began with a cruise aboard the historic Dixie Sternwheeler, Indiana’s oldest sternwheel tour boat, located in North Webster. The ride provided cadets with a unique view of Webster Lake and a deeper appreciation for the importance of preserving local landmarks that connect generations. The experience also offered time for cadets to network and begin building the relationships that will carry them through their leadership year, according to a news release from KLA.
Later in the day, cadets toured Polywood Inc., the Syracuse-based outdoor furniture manufacturer known for turning recycled plastics into sustainable, high-quality products. The tour was guided by KLA alumnus Bryce Glock, who shared how his own experience as a cadet introduced him to Polywood and ultimately led to his career with the company. His story underscored the lasting impact of KLA in developing future leaders and connecting them with opportunities in the community.
Cadets also saw firsthand how post-consumer plastics are transformed into durable, eco-friendly furniture and learned about Polywood’s approach to sustainability, growth and community investment.
The next KLA session will be Preserving Kosciusko County’s Water Resources at the Lilly Center for Lakes and Streams at Grace College on Sept. 9.
