Kicking Police Leads To Woman's Arrest

A Warsaw woman is facing multiple felony charges for battery on a law enforcement officer after an alleged scuffle while she was being detained.

Dollie Korinne Bumgardner, 22, of 1692 E. CR 200N, #98, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:57 p.m. June 3 and faces three Level 6 felony charges for battery on a law enforcement officer; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Superior Court II, on June 3 Warsaw police were dispatched to a home in reference to a battery that had occurred.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with two men who said Bumgardner had come to the home, gotten into an argument with them and struck one of them in the chin. Police reported seeing a cut and blood on one of the man’s chin. The other man got in between the two after Bumgardner allegedly hit the man in the chin, to which Bumgardner struck the other man in the head, according to the report.

When one of the men called 911, Bumgardner allegedly took the man’s phone, threw it on the ground and smashed it to bits. Police reported finding the smashed phone. Both of the men also told police they did not want to press charges against Bumgardner, they’d just rather she get her things and leave.

When police began speaking to Bumgardner, according to the affidavit, she refused to quit yelling and cussing, despite several warnings to stop. At this point, police informed Bumgardner she was being placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.

While attempting to place Bumgardner in handcuffs, the affidavit states, she attempted to kick WPD Officer Phillip Reed. As police were putting her in the squad car to transport her to jail, she allegedly kicked Reed in the thigh. While in the squad car, Bumgardner would not stop kicking and hitting her head on the cage, so police decided to switch her to a police vehicle with a single-person cage, the report states.

It was at this point that Bumgardner then kicked WPD Officer Zackery Smith in the stomach and thigh and kicked Winona Lake Police Officer David Swain in the thigh.

Her bond was set at $5,250.
