Kathleen "Katie" Kirkendall, 84, Warsaw, died at 8:25 a.m. Dec. 13, 2009, at Miller's Merry Manor.
She was born July 3, 1925, in Wiggins, Miss., to Roy C and Nettie Fallin Hatten. On Sept. 16, 1942, she married Fredrick Kirkendall, who died Feb. 29, 1984.
She was a member of Warsaw First Brethren Church and a member of American Legion Auxiliary. She lived in Warsaw since 1942, the past 20 years at Retired Tigers, Warsaw, before moving to Miller's Merry Manor in 2008. She worked as a dietitian at Murphy Medical Center for 17 years and Grace Village retiring in 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances (and spouse Louis) VanDoren, Rochester, and Rita (and spouse Roger) Laird, Warsaw; two grandsons, Chad (and spouse Meighan) Laird, Warsaw, and Kevin (and spouse Dana) Laird, Greenwood; two great-granddaughters, Chloe Laird, Warsaw, and Kalli Laird, Greenwood; four sisters: Marie Coblentz, Margaret Ward, both of Warsaw; Martha McCord, Indianapolis; Betty Sult, Claypool; a brother, Alton Hatten, Washington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Karleen Fingerlee and Ruth Murphy.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Bill Shipman officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
