SYRACUSE – Several juveniles are in custody after an alleged shooting incident in Syracuse early Sunday morning.

Police have not released the names of the five male juveniles involved.

At approximately 1:44 a.m. Sunday, Syracuse Police were dispatched to 108 E Haiden Drive, Apt. 36, regarding a possible shooting, according to a news release issued Monday from police.

On arrival, officers found a male juvenile lying on the floor of the residence stating he had been struck in the head with a baseball bat after four other juveniles entered his home and robbed him of money and firearms.

The victim said he chased the four other juveniles out of the residence and fired a handgun at the fleeing suspects. It was later determined the victim had struck a neighbor’s vehicle and apartment while firing the weapon, the release states.

Three juveniles were later taken into custody by SPD officers and taken to the South Bend Juvenile Justice Center. During the arrest of the three male juveniles, it was found that the shooter had grazed the leg of one of the suspects while firing the handgun.

One juvenile suspect is still wanted for questioning in regards to this case.

During a search of the victim’s residence, large amounts of marijuana, paraphernalia and two handguns were recovered.

The Syracuse Police were assisted by the Kosciusko and Elkhart County Sheriff’s Departments, North Webster, Milford Police, Winona Lake police and the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
