Juvenile Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Southern Wabash County

A juvenile was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in southern Wabash County.
According to a news release from the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, April 19 at approximately 3:48 p.m., the WCSO responded to a single-vehicle crash on Ind. 13, north of CR 1200S in southern Wabash County.
The preliminary investigation shows Linda Best, 37, of Windfall, was operating the vehicle and traveling north on Ind. 13. For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the east side of the road, returned to the northbound lane of travel, left the east side of the road a second time, traveled over a residential driveway and finally came to rest after striking a tree with the front right and passenger side of the vehicle.
Best and a juvenile passenger were initially entrapped in the vehicle. The news release did not identify the child. Best and the juvenile were both eventually removed from the vehicle by responding fire personnel.
Best was taken to Parkview Hospital, Wabash, by ambulance, and was later flown to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, by Parkview Samaritan 2.
The juvenile suffered critical injuries, and was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis, by Lutheran Air. At approximately 3 a.m. Monday, April 20 the juvenile was pronounced dead at Riley Children’s Hospital.
This crash, and the causation factors that may have contributed, remain under investigation, the release states. There is no further information to release as this time.
Assisting agencies included Indiana Conservation Office, Indiana State Police, Wabash City Fire Department, Converse Fire Department, Noble Township Fire Department, Wabash County EMA, Lutheran Air and Parkview Samaritan.
