Editor, Times-Union: Many of you are aware of the recent drug related murders in Syracuse, as reported by the local news. You may be interested in knowing there is a series of forums starting the fourth Wednesday of April and continues on the fourth Wednesdays of May and June which address some of the issues that can lead up to these types of situations. Each of the forums will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, 801 S. Huntington St. This is a community program, not a religious event. Kosciusko County Superior Court Judge David Cates will discuss exactly how the Juvenile system works, not only in the court room but through other channels such as the school system and some of the challenges it faces. This will include an open question and answer format after his remarks. Dr. Tom Edington, Superintendent of Wawasee Com. Schools will be on hand as well. Dr. Edington will be the primary presenter at the May forum sharing the value that proper school facilities bring to the community and the planned construction of the new elementary. The third forum in June will be Dr. Larry Allen, Chief Medical Officer, I.U. Goshen. He will be discussing the future of the Health Care Challenge and what it could mean to each of you concerning your future health care. Parents may bring children age 3+ as Jiggles the clown will entertain in the fellowship hall. You should find these presentations interesting and applicable to parents with “good kids”! There is no charge and no ticket is necessary. Call Calvary 457-3778 for further details. We read a lot of opinions in the paper. Now, come and get the facts. Tom Stiver Syracuse, via email
