Monday's edition included a letter to the editor with inaccurate information about a judicial nominee.
It took less than five minutes to verify that the American Bar Association rated Judge David Hamilton as "well qualified." The author sent her letter by e-mail so we know she has Internet service. So apparently she simply parroted the (Tea) party line of some other member of the radical right.
She also mentions the "public outcry" in April when Judge Hamilton was nominated for the 7th Circuit. Part of that "public outcry" included several endorsements by Republican Senators - including Senator Lugar - endorsements meaning favorable comment and recommendation.
Judge Hamilton has served very well as Federal District Court Judge for the Southern District of Indiana since 1994, currently serving as Chief Judge. Comments to the editor about nominations, and particularly nominations to the third branch of government, should always be fair and balanced, and deserving of at least a small amount of easy research to verify facts, rather than just repeating false claims heard from another.
As Senator Lugar endorsed the nomination last spring, you may want to call and thank him for his work. Calls can be made to 866-288-1495 (assuming the author of Monday's letter got that part right).
