NORTH MANCHESTER - Juanita J. Royce, 89, of North Manchester, formerly of Griffith and Hammond, died at 11:14 p.m. April 26, 2007, at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
She was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Sparks, Ga., to Thomas Henry and Juanita Rogers Jarman. On Jan. 4, 1943, she married Raymond J. Royce, who died Oct. 25, 1999.
She summered at Crystal Lake, Warsaw, for 60 years. A registered nurse, she was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Munster. She was an Army veteran, serving in World War II from 1941-43 as a nurse stationed in Hawaii. She was an accomplished seamstress, woodworker and ceramist. She enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook.
Survivors include two sons: Raymond Mark Royce, Asheville, N.C.; Lewis E. (and wife Alice Beth) Royce, Maryville, Tenn.; three daughters: Margaret Royce Galvin, Hammond; Mrs. William (Juanita "Tina") Smiley, Silver Lake; Mrs. Steve (Mary R.) Oliver, Winslow, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Deaconess Sabine Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Wooden Cemetery at Harrison Center Church, Kosciusko County.
Calling is two hours prior to service at the funeral home.
