Joseph E. Mort, 90, Warsaw, passed away at 5:59 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, in Parkview Whitley Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1927, in Claypool, to Royal Casper Mort and Roxie Ruth Thompson Mort. On Oct. 6, 1950, in North Manchester, he was married to Marilyn M. Martin.
He graduated from Pierceton High School with the class of 1945. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Oct. 4, 1945, at Camp Atterbury; he served in airplane maintenance. Sgt. Joseph E. Mort was honorably discharged Aug. 3, 1948, at McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma, Wash.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He was a dairy farmer for 30 years, then a meat inspector for the state of Indiana until he retired at the age of 85.
He was a member of Pierceton American Legion Post 258.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Kevin Mort, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tristan (Janice) Mort, Syracuse; two daughters: Joni (Bob) Walter, Nappanee, and Janeen (Tony) Meinert, Claypool; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn M. Mort, Feb. 22, 2016; a son, Collin Joseph Mort, Aug. 21, 2008; two brothers, Howard Mort and Daniel Mort; and a sister, Betty Walgamuth.
No visitation is planned. A private family service will be held.
Pierceton American Legion Post 258 will conduct graveside honors at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
