NORTH WEBSTER — Joseph Jay “Joey” DeWitt, 52, Pierceton, passed away at 10:41 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1965, in Garrett, to Joe Harold and Ella Nora Wolonski DeWitt.
He was a lifetime Syracuse/North Webster area resident and graduated in 1983 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse. He was married on Dec. 18, 1993, in Syracuse, to Cynthia S. “Cyndi” Mullins Hawthorne, who survives.
He worked at The Car Company in Warsaw for three years, Supreme Corp. in Goshen for 15 years and Keystone Corp. in Wakarusa for three years.
He formerly attended St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Syracuse, and loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife, Cyndi DeWitt, Pierceton; a stepdaughter, Stephanie (Nate Ott) Cannon, Syracuse; three stepsons: David Hawthorne, Syracuse; Brock Hawthorne, Syracuse; and Joshua (Courtney Ruggier) Hawthorne, Warsaw; 14 stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Sam Carnes of Open Bible Baptist Church, Warsaw, officiating.
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw.
