SYRACUSE - Joseph Gordon Howell, 87, of North Webster, died of AML Leukemia, at 4:15 a.m. Sept. 13, 2007, in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Monticello, to Joseph G. Sr. and Hazel Nelson Howell. In Brownwood, Texas, he married Cathryn Onez Wicker. They recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary.

Living most of his life in Kosciusko County, he had a photography shop, an electrical business and an upholstery and canvas business in North Webster, from which he retired. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1938, and attended Texas Christian University. A World War II veteran, he served with the Army in the 13th armored division in Rhineland, Central Europe Go 40 WE 45, receiving the Good Conduct Medal while serving in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign. He was a member of North Webster United Methodist Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1342, Syracuse; and American Legion Post 253, North Webster.

Surviving are two daughters, Priscilla Elliot and Patricia Stewart, both of North Webster; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

A memorial service will be at a later date. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.

No calling is planned.
