John Richard Pfeiffer, 83, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, in the Nappanee home which he’d built by hand.
John was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Nappanee, to William C. and Nellie Faulkner Pfeiffer.
Lucky enough to find love twice in his life, John was married to Betty Munson on May 10, 1958. They were married for almost 10 years until her passing on Jan. 5, 1968. John married Linda Hawkins on May 21, 1971, in Elkhart. They would share 31 years together until her passing on Nov. 4, 2002.
Although formerly of Warsaw, John spent most of his life in the Nappanee area and had attended Nappanee schools. He was a self-employed carpenter, specializing in building homes, but he was known as a jack of all trades.
John was a faithful member of United Pentecostal Church (now Community Life Center), Warsaw, and was integral in building the church and caring for the property. He loved his church and was a man of great faith. He enjoyed being outside and liked to garden.
He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Tammy (Ken) Riley, Nappanee, and Trisha (George) Talley, Ionia, Mich.; son, Eric (Amy) Pfeiffer, Claypool; five grandchildren: Megan and Jonathan Riley, both of Nappanee; and Josh, Scott and Brandon Talley, all of Ionia, Mich.; and a brother, Glen Gordon “Gordy” Pfeiffer, Boyce, La. He is also survived by his “special girl,” Autumn Cripe, whom he loved like a granddaughter.
In addition to his first wife, Betty, who preceded John in passing on Jan. 5, 1968, and his wife, Linda, on Nov. 4, 2002, going before him are three brothers: Henry Pfeiffer, Roy Pfeiffer and Wade Pfeiffer; and three sisters: Rachel Bollenbacher, Hilda Smith and Mary Hall.
Friends may gather for a time of sharing from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 26, in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw.
A funeral service celebrating John’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Community Life Center, 825 N. Harrison St., Warsaw; a visitation will take place for one hour prior. Dr. Dan Cox of Community Life Center will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
