John Anglin

My wife and I went this evening to our neighbor and friend’s viewing – John Anglin. It took us a little over three hours to get through the line but it was well worth it.
I never saw this many people at a viewing before. When we left, there were still people going in. As I looked at all those people I thought “what a tribute and testimony to the life that this man led.” I didn’t know John for a lot of years but I considered him to be a good friend. If you saw him out and he was close enough to you, he would always shake your hand and ask how you were doing. If he was going down the road, he would honk and wave.
I think he was one of those people who never met a stranger. He was always offering to help you do something. He would tell you if you need to borrow this and that, just come by and get it. I remember once several year’s ago, I had met him but didn’t know much about him. I had got a deer one morning and after dragging it out of the wood’s I had it hanging in a tree and John came and looked at it.
I told him it about got the best of me dragging it out by myself. His response was why didn’t I come over and get his 4-wheeler or gator, whichever he had at the time. He said if I’m not home come up to the elevator and get the key. That was just the kind of guy he was.
I am going to miss seeing him go by and honking. The old country road out here won’t be the same. I think he left everybody he met with the same feeling that I got when I met him. If the world had a few more John Anglins it would be a much better place. Rest in Peace my Friend.
