Jesse Lowell Gaff, 84, of Warsaw, died at 12:27 p.m. Sept. 1, 2009.
He was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Collins Township, Whitley County, to James Wilbert and Hazel Sophia Raypol Gaff. On Oct. 22, 1947, at Big Lake Church of God, he married Vera O. Macy, who survives.
Living most of his life in Kosciusko County, he worked at Zimmer Inc. for 15 years, retiring in 1987; also 19 years at Times-Union. He was a charter member of the National World War II Memorial; a member of Warsaw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and National Rifle Association; a lifetime member of Warsaw Rifle and Pistol Club and Fort Wayne Rifle and Revolver Club; and in the past was a volunteer fireman for the city of Warsaw. He attended Warsaw Church of God. He entered the U.S. Army April 26, 1945, in Indianapolis. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal - Japan. Pfc Jesse L. Gaff was honorably discharged Dec. 13, 1946, at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Ill.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jo Ellen (and spouse Terry) Smith, Warsaw, and Dena (and spouse Douglas) Walker, Richmond, Va.; a son, Roger (and spouse Sharon) Gaff, Warsaw; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Stanley, North Manchester, and Genevera Arnold, Arcola; and three brothers, Norbert (and spouse Justine) Gaff, Florida, and Alpheus Ray Gaff and Stanley D. (and spouse Priscilla) Gaff, all of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Coy, Betty Egner and Mary Frances Gaff, and two brothers, Jimmie Gaff and Julian Gaff.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Jerry Yoder of Warsaw Church of God, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military graveside honors by members of Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and VFW 1126.
