ROCHESTER - Jerry J. Reed, 74, of 1308 Jackson Blvd., Rochester, died at 7:20 a.m. Jan. 28, 2009, in his residence.
He was born Aug. 25, 1934, in Kosciusko County, to Dewy and Viola Beeny Reed. On June 1, 1956, in Mentone, he married Dixie Linn, who survives.
He graduated from Akron High School in 1953, and Manchester College and received a master's degree from Clarkson College of Technology. He was a chemistry teacher at Rich Central High School, Olympia Fields, Ill., for 35 years, retiring in June 1991. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Illinois Teachers Association.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kim Sheehy, Rochester, and Brenda (and spouse Kurt) Ponto, Akron; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with Pastor Phil Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
