AKRON - Jean M. Balmer, 50, of 10275 N. Ind. 19, Macy, died at 8:19 a.m. Nov. 14, 2008.
She was born Oct. 14, 1958, in Rochester, to Robert F. and Norma J. Shaffer Smith, who survive in Rochester. On Aug. 27, 1977, in Rochester, she married Stanley R. Balmer, who died May 23, 2008.
She was a bus aid for North Miami School Corporation and a 1977 Rochester High School graduate. She was a member of Leroy Shelton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 36; Eagles Auxiliary 852, Rochester; and New Life United Methodist Church, Mexico, Ind. She loved crafts and enjoyed her grandchildren.
Also surviving are a daughter, Debra (and spouse Samuel) Cole, Wheatfield; a son, David Balmer (and fiance Holly Oldham), Peru; two granddaughters, Allison and Hayleigh Cole; a brother, John (and spouse Rhonda) Smith, Shelbyville; her father-in-law, Bill Balmer, Rochester; and her mother-in-law, Alice Balmer, London, Ky.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Life United Methodist Church, corner of U.S. 31 and Miami County Road 400N, Mexico, with Pastor Bill Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Gilead Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, is in charge of arrangements.
