SYRACUSE – Javier “Harvey” De La Fuente Sr., 71, of Elkhart, formerly of Milford, passed away at 9:26 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1950, in Matamoros Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Flumencio and Sabina De La Fuente.
He attended public schools in Mexico and Milford and was married on June 15, 1975, in Texas, to Adelmira “Adel” Mascorro, who survives. He was formerly employed at Maple Leaf Farms in Milford and was a construction roofer by trade. He lived in Texas until he was 13 and lived in Milford for several years before moving to Elkhart.
He formerly attended the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Milford.
He is survived by wife, Adel De La Fuente, of Elkhart; four daughters: Florence De La Fuente, of Elkhart; Magdaleana (Jermaine) Herring, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Adel De La Fuente, of Elkhart; and Melissa De La Fuente, of Elkhart; son, Javier De La Fuente Jr., of Elkhart; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Hilda Flores and Maria (Jorge) Castro, both of Milford; four brothers: Jose (Toun) Guadalupe De La Fuente, of Elkhart; Louis (Lupita) De La Fuente, of Harlingen, Texas; David (Joni) De La Fuente, of Milford; and Robert (Maria) De La Fuente, of Milford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Delio and Guadalupe De La Fuente.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5 with Pastor Kellie Hennings officiating. Private family burial will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Mich.
