Ricki Jan Moore York, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., peacefully completed her earthly journey on March 17, 2026, at Tidewell Hospice House.
She was born Aug. 28, 1945, in Connersville, to Robert Lee Moore and Lillian Jean Coon Moore Risch.
Jan graduated from Connersville High School in 1963, where she was a proud Spartinette and served as editor of the 1963 Cohiscan yearbook. She went on to attend Ball State University from 1963 to 1966, where she became editor-in-chief of the Ball State Daily News. It was there, in September 1963, that she met the love of her life, Bruce Edward York. They were married on Aug. 2, 1964, in Connersville, and shared 61 devoted years of marriage, marked by deep faith and enduring love.
Bruce and Jan moved to Warsaw in 1980. While in Warsaw, Jan returned to Ball State University, where she earned dual degrees in journalism and public relations. She completed her student teaching at Warsaw Community High School and was later hired there to teach English and journalism and serve as advisor for the school newspaper.
Jan’s life and legacy will be lovingly remembered and celebrated on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at the Port Charlotte Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda, Florida. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
