SYRACUSE - James W. "Jim" Kitson, 96, of Syracuse, died at 2:20 p.m. May 14, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.
He was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Milford, to Cressell Jay and Lena Lenora Gordy Kitson. On June 26, 1937, in Goshen, he married Vera J. Williamson, who died March 31, 2008.
He graduated in 1932 from Syracuse High School. He retired in 1955 from Days Transfer Trucking, Elkhart, after 25 years and retired in 1980 from farming. He drove school bus for Fairfield Community Schools for 15 years. He was a lifetime Elkhart and Kosciusko counties area resident except for four years that he lived in Brandon, Fla., during the early 1980s. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Syracuse, and a former member of the Lions Club, Syracuse.
Surviving are a daughter, Charmaine A. (and spouse Vincent) Doyle, Syracuse; a son, Phillip (and spouse Lorraine) Kitson, Celina, Ohio; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN.
