James Roscoe Howard

SYRACUSE - James Roscoe Howard, 63, of Syracuse, died at 10:08 p.m. Feb. 27, 2008, in Goshen General Hospital.

He was born July 6, 1944, in Goshen, to Roscoe and Bernice Robinson Howard.

A lifetime area resident, he was an attorney in Syracuse for many years, and previously was deputy prosecuting attorney for Kosciusko County. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1963; earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in education from Indiana University; and a doctorate of juris prudence from the I.U. Law School, Indianapolis. He was a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Kosciusko County Bar Association. He was very active in Kosciusko County Republican politics, serving as precinct committeeman, and was inducted into the Republican Hall of Fame of Kosciusko County Republicans. He was a member of Rotary. He was an accomplished photographer, winning high awards and prizes in several National Kodak photography contests. An avid rock climber, he visited Yosemite National Park every year for climbing and photography.

Surviving are several close friends, including Barbara Berke Grant, Syracuse.

No services or calling are planned. Burial will be at a later date in Syracuse Cemetery.

Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
