AKRON – James R. Winters, 76, of Akron, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Oct. 5, 2011.
He was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Miami County, to Roy and Marie Ward Winters.
On Sept. 15, 1963, at First Christian Church, Peru, he married Susie Carroll, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. A railroad employee for more than 40 years, he began working with the Nickel Plate Railroad and ended his career as a conductor with the Norfolk and Southern.
Also surviving are two sons, Archie (and spouse Michelle) Winters, Warsaw, and Jim (and spouse Marie) Guyer, Peru; a daughter, Marie (and spouse Robert) Benzing, Akron; seven grandchildren, Blake and Alexis Winters, Thor, Corbin and Mariah Benzing; and Jamey and Jeremiah Guyer; two sisters, Ellen (and spouse Dick) Fox, of Springfield, Ill., and Annette (and spouse Jim) Shelton, Peru; two brothers, Gene (and spouse Diane) Winters, Mexico, Ind., and Jan Winters, Peru; and a sister-in-law, Brownie Winters, Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl Winters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main, Peru, with Pastor David Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
