James H. Gibson

James H. Gibson, 59, of 5987 W. Red Bird Lane, Mentone, died at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 24, 2009, in his sister's residence, after a battle with cancer.

He was born April 15, 1949, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Richard "Dick" and Aggie Poe Gibson. On March 14, 1975, he married Carol E. Wait. They later divorced.

Moving to Kosciusko County in 1952, he attended Claypool schools and graduated from South Whitley High School in 1967. He attended classes at Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne. He was in the U.S. Army, serving in Alaska and the Vietnam War as a soldier and a military policeman. He was a maintenance man and machinist, working at several local businesses, including Clausings, Yant Farms, OEC Medical Systems, and Johnson Electronics, all in Warsaw; LTI, Laketon; Par-Kan, Silver Lake; and Paragon Medical, Pierceton. He also farmed at the family property near Sidney. An avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, he loved his dogs: Patches, Isadora, Pee-Wee and Chloe.

Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Gibson, South Whitley; a son, James Gibson, Etna Green; five sisters: Jane Parsley and Joyce (and spouse Carl) Arnett, all of Warsaw; Becky (and spouse Gary) Krotke and Dottie (and spouse Bill) Teeter, all of North Manchester; and Betty (and spouse Pete) Zimmerman, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Sam Gibson, Silver Lake, and Charlie (and spouse Renee) Gibson, Warsaw; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arnold Gibson and Richard Gibson Jr.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in Jackson Township Cemetery, Sidney.
