Jack D. Keirn, age 70, of Warsaw, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at 8:50 p.m. in Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Jack was born on Feb. 4, 1950, in Warsaw, to Hubert E. and Adda Claudean Reed Keirn. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Bush on Friday, March 14, 1975, in Mentone.
Jack graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1968 and was an honorary member of the Mentone High School class of 1968. He worked as a tool and die maker for Zimmer Inc. from 1971-2005. He owned and operated Jack Keirn Snowplowing, Hauling & Excavating from 1982-2017. Jack served on the Winona Lake Fire Department from 1978 until 2020. He served as captain and was awarded Firefighter of the Year in 2003 by the department and was currently serving as a senior firefighter.
He is survived by wife of 44 years, Kathleen Keirn, of Warsaw; children: Amy (Greg) Prater, of Akron; Jody (Matthew) Furniss, of Fort Wayne; Jennifer (Landron) Whittington, of Fortville; Jacob Keirn, of Miami Beach, Fla.; mother, Alice Keirn, of Warsaw. In addition, Jack is survived by siblings: Becky (Larry) Montel, of Claypool; James (Linda) Keirn, of Mentone; Nancy (Dennis) Dodge, of Las Cruces, N.M.; Rex (Trenda) Keirn, of North Manchester; grandchildren: Katie (Jarod) Duzenbery, of Akron; Kinzie (Dylan Manwaring) Prater, of Warsaw; Layne Prater, of Akron; Madelynn Furniss, Michael Furniss and Morgan Furniss, all of Fort Wayne; Liam Whittington, of Fortville.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m. in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Pastors Rick Hurley and Mark Burrett will be officiating the services. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 1 in the funeral chapel. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
