ISP Investigating Fatal Crash Following Pursuit In Wabash County

WABASH COUNTY – On Saturday, May 16, the Indiana State Police was requested by the Wabash Police Department to investigate a fatal crash that occurred during a vehicle pursuit.
Preliminary investigation indicates shortly before 3 a.m., officers with the Wabash Police Department attempted to stop a motorcycle after the rider disregarded a red light. The motorcycle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, according to a news release from the ISP.
Moments later, the motorcycle traveled off the roadway near the intersection of Miami and Walter streets in Wabash. The motorcycle then hit a utility pole before coming to rest.
A news release from the Wabash City Police Department stated that Wabash Police officers, Wabash County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Wabash Fire Department paramedics immediately responded to the scene and provided medical aid. The male driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.
No officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.
The rider’s name and other information was not released by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office as of press time Sunday.
ISP Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash Police Department, Wabash County Coroner’s Office and Wabash Fire and EMS, according to the ISP news release.
