WABASH COUNTY - A Marion man was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Ind. 15 in Wabash County.
According to an Indiana State Police news release, the incident occurred at the junction of Ind. 15 and CR 700S.
A preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Dustin Rutledge indicates shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, a 2007 Buick Lacrosse, driven by Dennis Stroup, 85, Marion, was traveling north on Ind. 15 approaching CR 700S in Wabash. For an undetermined reason, the Buick turned into the direct path of a 2014 Ford F150, driven by Larry Walker, 76, of La Fontaine. The vehicles collided and came to a rest on the southwest quadrant of the intersection, the release states. Also in the Ford was a passenger, Sharon Walker, 72, of La Fontaine.
Stroup was taken by Wabash Fire Department to a local hospital. Despite life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
The Walkers were taken by Wabash Fire to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing. At this time, neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics are suspected of contributing to this crash. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made, the release states.
Rutledge was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru District, Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana DNR Law Enforcement, Wabash Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and Wabash County EMA.
