Irvin Wayne Lindemuth, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 6:42 a.m.  Feb. 4, 2016. at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Defiance, Ohio, to Bert M. and Mary Mildred Overhiser Lindemuth. On June 12, 1955, he married B. Carolyn Daily, and they had the joy of sharing 60 years of marriage together. She survives in Warsaw.
His family moved west when he was 13, settling in Everett, Wash., where he completed high school.
He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering there, and later a bachelor’s in civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York.
He served 30 years in the Coast Guard, including a tour in Vietnam. He was active in his local church at every duty station and retired to Warsaw in 1985. He completed a master’s degrees in Biblical counseling and Christian school administration at Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake. He served on the Community Library Board for eight years and was an elder at Bethany Fellowship, Warsaw, for over 20 years. He touched a great number of lives in many ways as a counselor, hospital chaplain and mentor. He loved a good joke and is remembered by those he encountered as a kind and wise man who always had time for them.
He also will be lovingly remembered by a daughter, Dr. Karen (and spouse Dr. Ben) Scripture, Warsaw; two sons, Steve W. (and spouse Maribeth) Lindemuth, Burke, Va., and Hal Lindemuth, Warsaw; five grandchildren: USN Lt. Luke (and spouse Sarah) Scripture; Carolyn (and spouse Ryan) Pritchett; Katie (and spouse Cannon) Veale; Steven D. (and spouse Kelly) Lindemuth; and Ryan Lindemuth (and fiancée Jessica Stoehr); and four great-grandchildren, Bronson and James Scripture and Karey and Lorien Pritchett; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Lindemuth, Olympia, Wash.; and two sisters, Rosa (and spouse Jack) Scherueble, Everett, Wash., and Pauline Highet, Mount Vernon, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Services will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, with Dr. Ben Scripture officiating. Military honors will be conducted following his service by active members of the U.S. Coast Guard and American Legion Post 49 and VFW 1126, both of Warsaw. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scipio Cemetery, Harlan.
Calling is from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
