Insurance Important

Editor, Times-Union:

I wish to write this to let people know how important insurance is.

On Nov. 1, 2007, I had a car crash, totaling the car. I was taken by ambulance to Kosciusko Community Hospital's emergency room. I was sent up for MRI as one of my ribs on the right side of my chest was very painful. I was in the machine for 30 minutes as it wasn't warmed up. Also, my left knee was badly swollen and bruised.

When I was taken back, the emergency room doctor said you have no broken ribs, do you want pain medicine? I said no. He then said you may walk out of here. My left knee is still swollen after this long time.

Anyway, we get a bill for $8,616.67. We are 63 years old and would never have been able to pay for this on our own. Our own insurance companies were billed. Just a little word to the wise.
