IHSAA

Here we go again. Another bubblehead ruling, applicable to Indiana American Legion baseball teams, by the arrogant, incompetent, public-be-darned etc., Indiana High School Athletic Association.

Because football practice started Aug. 4 Hammond American Legion Post 168's team was forced to cut seven players after the state tourney had started with no objection from their manager if any of the players wanted to go out for football with school not starting until Aug. 25.

This ruling applied to all state Legion teams with high school players in the tourney and obviously would damage the state champion in our country's tourney.

Plymouth American Legion Post 27 spent a lot of money in hosting the state tourney and did a great job.

Incidentally, Plymouth's team, which also included Warsaw players, also lost their coach as he was in the school system.

This is the same IHSAA, who several years ago, introduced class basketball which destroyed the USA's best high school tournament.

The IHSAA's action shows their obvious animosity toward any program aiding high school athletics and not controlled by the IHSAA.

The state high school tourney's revenue decreased approximately 50 percent with class basketball, so, in private enterprise, how many CEOs would be around if their company's revenue decreased by 50 percent the first few years of control?

Why don't our legislators investigate and/or introduce legislation for more taxpayer and not educator control of the IHSAA? After all, we taxpayers pay for the usual expensive athletic facilities.
