Howard Russell Bock, 93, passed away peacefully Nov. 4, 2010.
He was born April 27, 1917, in Wyatt, to John Clinton and Bertha Young Bock. On June 5, 1949, in Warsaw, he married his loving wife, Martha Louise Bartel, who preceded him in death.
He lived more than 60 years of his life in Warsaw, and most recently Independence Village, Petoskey, Mich.
He served overseas in the U.S. Army in World War II as a medical technician from Dec. 7, 1941, to Sept. 2, 1945.
He taught math and driver's education for 40 years, Claypool-Union Township (LaPorte County), Warsaw Community Schools and Culver Military Academy and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, past lay leader.
Howard was very active in several organizations: Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne, John Peterson Post of American Legion and Shrine Mizpah Temple of Fort Wayne. He served as past president of Lion's Club-Warsaw Evening, Warsaw Community Education Association, Indiana Driver and Traffic Safety Association, Kosciusko Officials Association, Kosciusko Retired Teachers Association and Travelers Protective Association. He also was a volunteer for American Red Cross and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are a son, Russell (and spouse Jane Blondin) Bock, Petoskey; three grandchildren, Jason, Jessica (Whitman) Bock, Boyne Falls Aaron, Bekah (Cooper) Bock, Portage, and Jenica Bock, Grand Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Karlie and Vyera Bock; two brothers, Harold Bock, Oregon, and George Bock, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Bock; four brothers: Carl, Edward, John and Paul; and a sister, Priscilla.
He always had a kind word and a joke for every occasion; he enjoyed his years of teaching and coaching as much as his students enjoyed him. He and Martha traveled around the world visiting almost every state in the U.S. and 26 countries around the world. Howard loved sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, fishing and a good game of bridge with his friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw.
