NORTH MANCHESTER – Wawasee won both doubles matches and at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to take a 4-1 win over host Manc-hester in a non-conference boys tennis match Wednesday.

Holden Babb and Jack Gibbons both won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles by 6-1, 6-1 scores over Manchester’s Quinn Martin and Justin Hall, respectively.

At No. 1 doubles, Warriors Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut won 6-2, 6-2 over the Squires’ Ethan Espeset and Isaac Reichenbach. Wawasee’s Colin Rhoades and Zeke Keim won the No. 2 doubles match 6-2, 6-2 over Sam Hupp and Korbin Hensley.

In the two junior varsity matches, Jeb Richey and Jay Duncan recorded wins for Wawasee.

The Warriors (4-8) return to Northern Lakes Conference play today, traveling to Elkhart Memorial. Manchester is off until Monday when  the Squires travel to Columbia City for a non-conference match.

Lady Squires Trip Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY – Manchester’s Ranissa Shambarger scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Emma Garriott, and Hadley Schannep scored just before halftime to give the visiting Lady Squires a 2-0 Three Rivers Conference girls soccer win over Whitko Wednesday evening.

Whitko returns to action Saturday, playing at North Miami for a TRC match. Manchester hosts Rochester in a conference match Monday at Good Field.

Valley Soccer Beats Zebras

ROCHESTER – Taking advantage of a fast start, Tippecanoe Valley’s co-ed soccer team won 6-2 over host Rochester in a Three Rivers Conference match Wednesday.

The Vikings’ leading scorer, Caleb Petgen, headed in a corner kick off the foot of Osbaldo Sanchez for the match’s first goal.

After the Zebras tied the match, freshman Christian Ramirez scored to put Valley back on top.

Valley then put together what head coach Andrew Luce called “the best half of soccer we’ve played this season.” Jorge Rosas converted a penalty kick for a 3-1 Viking lead, then four minutes later Ramirez found the net for the second time in the match. Ramirez would complete his hat trick to expand the lead to 5-1, and Rosas capped the Valley scoring with his second goal.

“It was a total team effort. Jakob Jones, Jessica Brito and Arturo Dominguez along with Rosas have become an excellent back line and get more comfortable playing together with each game,” Luce said. “The midfield, lead by Ruiz, Sanchez and Uvaldo Gutierrez, did a good job defending and helping create offensive scoring opportunities.”

Valley will play at Peru today, and with a win would clinch third place in the TRC, the best finish in the young program’s history.
