Wawasee Wins 10-Inning NLC Baseball Marathon

PLYMOUTH – Wawasee scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat Plymouth 8-5 in a Northern Lakes Conference baseball game Wednesday.

Carter Woody had a double for the Warriors’ only extra-base hit to go with nine singles in the contest, Woody and Levi Brown had two hits each, with Woody and Grant Brooks scoring a pair of runs each.

Jacob Krugman was the winning pitcher with three innings of hitless, scoreless relief. He struck out three and walked none.

Now 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the NLC, Wawasee will play at Goshen Friday.



Warriors Roll To Run-Rule Victory

SYRACUSE – After the first frame, Wawasee scored in every inning on its way to a 12-0, five-inning win over Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference softball Wednesday afternoon.

Faith Swihart, the reigning Times-Union Player of the Week, homered, doubled, singled, scored twice and drove in three runs for the Warriors. Ava Rush homered and had three RBI’s, and Abigayle Smith had a solo homer.

Bethany Flannery, Graceanne Kerlin and Olivai Stuck had two hits each in the game, with Stuck and Kerlin each getting a double in the contest.

Wawasee will host Goshen Friday in a NLC game.



Vikings Get TRC Win

AKRON – Layne Parker tossed 5-1/3 innings of shutout baseball, allowing three hits and striking out five to lead Tippecanoe Valley to a 3-0 win over visiting Northfield in Three Rivers Conference competition Wednesday.

Lucas Walters recorded the save and also had two hits.

Winners of three in a row, Valley (5-3, 2-1 TRC) will host John Glenn at 10 a.m. Saturday.



Tiger Track Wins Two

GOSHEN – Warsaw’s boys track team earned a pair of Northern Lakes Conference wins, 81-51 over host Goshen and 77-55 over Concord.

Nick Bazzoni, Hunter Metzger and Jack May finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the pole vault for the Tigers. Other top performances for Warsaw included Kyle Dawson and Nick Miller finishing 1-2 in the discus; Miller and Henry Wagoner also taking the top two places in the shot; Sam Lechlitner winning the 1,600-meter run; Tanner Stiver winning the 800;  Alijah Wade, second in the 100; Isaac Mitchell, second in the 400; Jacob Kissling, second in the 3,200; and Tyler Metzger and Connor Lennox taking second and third, respectively, in the high jump.

Next up for Warsaw is hosting the Max Truex Invitational Friday at Fisher Field.



Warsaw Downs Carroll

Finally getting a calm spring afternoon, the Warsaw boys varsity golf team responded with their best outing of the year, firing a season-low 154 to top Carroll's team total of 159 at Rozella Ford Golf Course Wednesday.

The Tigers were led by senior Chase Byron, who shot a 36 and tied for medalist with Carroll's Carson Pulver. Byron was followed closely by Cal Hoskins 37, while Zach LaLonde and Tucker Carlile rounded out the scoring positions with rounds of 40 and 41, respectively. Seth Hildebrand and Ben Brander also competed for the varsity with scores of 42 and 48.

The junior varsity dropped their match with Carroll, 176-188. The Tigers were led by Will Hall and Mason Whitaker, shooting scores of 45 and 46, respectively. Others competing for the Tigers were Jack Yeager, Lewis Turley, Jeremy Ryman and Bryce Welk.

The varsity next heads down to Peru and Rock Hollow Golf Course for the Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, while the JV heads to Battleground Golf Course near Lafayette Saturday.

Tigers Fall To Raiders

MIDDLEBURY – Northridge scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings on its way to a 6-2 Northern Lakes Conference baseball win over visiting Warsaw Wednesday.

Matt Shoemaker, Joey Springer, Noah Burgh, Gage Lyon, Ian Glogovsky, and Jacob Hutcherson all had one hit for the Tigers.

Warsaw will take on NLC foe Concord at Tiger Field Friday.



Panthers Beat Wawasee

SYRACUSE – NorthWood’s boys track team defeated host Wawasee 108-38 in Northern Lakes Conference competition Wednesday.

Karlson Hand and Brandon Kidd finished 1-2, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run for the Warriors. Other top finishers for Wawasee were Luke Griner, first in the 800; Jon Konieczny, first in the high jump; Isaiah Tipping, first in shot put; Jordan Grindle, second in the 100; Jesus Landeros, second in the 200; Spencer Hare and Michale Hammer, second and third, respectively, in the 1,600; Jayden Boyer, third in the high jump; and Hagean Slusher, third in the discus.

Next up for Wawasee is its regular-season finale with Goshen at Elkhart Memorial Wednesday.



Whitko Golf Splits

NORTH MANCHESTER – Whitko’s score of 190 was good enough for a split in Three Rivers Conference boys golf Wednesday. Rochester had a 167, and the Wildcats bested North Miami’s 224.

Kylar Bryant paced Whitko with a 45, with Dale Reiff next at 47. Jonathan Strayer had a 48, Cade Bechtold a 50 and Storm Baldridge a 61. Ezra Small posted a 63 as a junior varsity player.

Next up for the Wildcats is a four-way match with Manchester, South Bend Riley and host Wawasee at South Shore Golf Club in Syracuse today.



Valley Falls At Glenn

WALKERTON – Tippecanoe Valley got a pair of wins in doubles matches, but lost 3-2 at John Glenn in non-conference girls tennis Wednesday.

Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley improved to 7-1 on thier season  with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Glenn’s Raegan Romar and Ashleigh Bolze. Kaitlin Neese and Haley Baker moved their season record to 5-3 with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 victory over Emma Romar and Olivia Vandall. The Viking duo trailed in both sets before coming back to win.

Chelsea Manns picked up a junior varsity singles win as well.

Now 4-4, Valley will host Maconaquah in Three Rivers Conference play Friday.



Norse Edge Vikings

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley’s seventh-inning rally fell a run short in a 6-5 Three Rivers Conference softball loss to visiting Northfield Wednesday.

Valley struck first, scoring one in the first inning when a RBI single by Alexandra Gomez plated Amy Baca. The Vikings answered Northfield's four-run third frame when Kirstyn Yoder was driven home on an Ally Betten double.

A small rally in the fourth saw the Vikings score two more runs when Kirsten Prater drove on Gomez, followed by a sac fly by Macy Kirchen-stien that scored Brayden Baney. Valley scored their final run in the seventh when Baca scored on a defensive error off the bat of Betten.

Sydney Howard took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits. Mayde Fear closed the door on Northfield, throwing the last three innings, allowing no runs on three hits.

Valley will host its own tournament beginning Saturday morning.



Raider SB Beats Warsaw

A seven-run seventh inning helped Northridge take a 13-3, five-inning win over host Warsaw in Three Rivers Conference softball Wednesday.

Hudson Bollinger had a pair of hits for the Tigers.

Warsaw will play another conference game at Concord Friday.
